[hts-users:00755] Fw: Open Position on Speech Synthesis or Multimodal Processing

Hi all,

I'd like to forward a mail about job offering related to HMM-based speech synthesis.

Regards,

Heiga ZEN (Byung Ha CHUN)

Job Offer: Open Position on Speech Synthesis or Multimodal Processing at
La Salle School of Engineering (www.salle.url.edu) (Ramon Llull
University)

The Multimodal Research Group at La Salle School of Engineering (Ramon
Llull University), in Barcelona (Spain) seeks qualified candidates for
research in the fields of multimodal processing or speech technologies
(mainly focused on text to speech synthesis).

Three research positions (1 Postdoc, 1 PhD, 1 Engineer) are available
within the context of one European project and one Spanish project.

Date of call: July 9, 2007.

Application deadline: September 3, 2007.

Starting date: October 07 or as early as possible.

Duration: 12-24 months depending on position

Ref SALERO1: Postdoctoral position on Speech Synthesis

The successful candidate is expected to perform research on speech
corpus design and creation, corpus based and/or HMM based speech
synthesis and expressive/ natural TTS synthesis.
The work will be developed within the SALERO Project (http://
www.salero.eu <http://www.salero.eu/> ).

SALERO's goal is to define and develop 'intelligent content' objects
with context-aware behaviours for self-adaptive use and delivery across
different platforms, building on and extending research in media
technologies, web semantics, and context based image retrieval, to
reverse the trend toward ever-increasing cost of creating media. The
candidate will benefit from exchange opportunities with leading research
centers in Europe.

The candidate must hold or be near completion of his/her PhD degree in a
related area. Please submit along with the CV, a PhD summary, and a list
of journal publications.

Duration: 24 months.

Ref SALERO2: PhD studentship on TTS synthesis:

Successful candidates are expected to develop and test algorithms for
speech corpus design and creation, corpus based and/or HMM based speech
synthesis and expressive/ natural TTS synthesis within the SALERO
Project (http:// www.salero.eu <http://www.salero.eu/> ). SALERO's goal
is to define and develop 'intelligent content' objects with
context-aware behaviours for self-adaptive use and delivery across
different platforms, building on and extending research in media
technologies, web semantics, and context based image retrieval, to
reverse the trend toward ever-increasing cost of creating media. The
candidate will benefit from exchange opportunities with leading research
centers in Europe.

Duration: 24 months

Ref SAVE2: Research Engineer position

The successful candidate is expected to develop and test algorithms for
multimodal fusion and fision within the SAVE Project (project financed
by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education). The project proposes
the study and development of a novel expressive audiovisual synthesis
system based on a photo realistic talking head. The preceding works
developed by the Multimodal Research Group in this field have lead to
preliminary versions, in which the results of speech and image synthesis
have been synchronized. The limitations of the a posteriori coupling
have highlighted the need of an improved integration based on a priori
fusion of the two modes.

Duration: 18 months

GENERAL INFORMATION

We are looking for excellent and highly motivated candidates with a
strong interest and a scientific background in: speech synthesis (text
to speech synthesis preferred) or multimodal processing. The candidates
must have a higher degree in Computer Science or Engineering. She/he is
expected to have good programming skills, and to have a positive
attitude toward interdisciplinary research and teamwork. A good English
level is required. Knowledge of Catalan and/or Spanish will be helpful,
but not mandatory.

Further information on the group's research lines can be found at
www.salle.url.edu/tsenyal/ <http://www.salle.url.edu/tsenyal/>

Interested candidates can apply for these positions directly by email to
elisa@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, sending a letter of motivation, salary expectations
and a detailed CV, including contact details of 2 referees. Please
include the position reference to your application.

Work permit required for non-EU residents.
