Your version is more explicit and clearer than BSD about what
one can do with the software. I think that BSD is too vague
about this, and leaves too much room for questioning or
interpretation.

Other than that BSD seems fine to me.

Hi all,

We are planning to switch the HTS license from the current one to New and Simplified BSD License (http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php).
The current one is as follows:

/*  ---------------------------------------------------------------  */
/* The HMM-Based Speech Synthesis System (HTS) */
/*                       HTS Working Group                           */

New and Simplified BSD license is as follows:

/*
Copyright (c) 2001-2008, Nagoya Institute of Technology and Tokyo Institute of Technology
All rights reserved.

Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met:

* Redistributions of source code must retain the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer. * Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution. * Neither the name of the HTS working group nor the names of its contributors may be used to endorse or promote products derived from this software without specific prior written permission.

*/

The main difference between these two licenses is the following term:

Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution. *Otherwise, one must contact the HTS working group.*

Can you give us your opinion about the license of HTS?
We'd like to make it as convenient as possible for both proprietary use and open-source softwares.
If switching license causes big problems, we will stop it.

Best regards,

Heiga ZEN (Byung Ha CHUN)
