[hts-users:04343] WiSSAP 2016 on Speech Prosody


Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like to cordially invite you to the Eleventh Winter School on Speech and Audio Processing (WiSSAP-2016), on the theme "Speech Prosody", to be held at SSN College of Engineering, Chennai, between the 8th and 11th of January 2016.
Prosody is the information contained in speech that goes beyond spoken words. Apart from its important communicative functions, it conveys the emotions of the speaker and also reflects the fluency of the speaker in a particular language. To enlighten participants on different aspects of speech prosody, three eminent researchers from abroad and five from reputed institutes in India, have been invited. Following are the topics that will be covered by each of the speakers:

  2. Acoustics of Speech Prosody – Prof. Preethi Rao, IIT Bombay
  3. Linguistic Functions of Prosody – Dr. Kalika Bali, Microsoft Research Labs, Bangalore
  4. Computational Models of Prosody for TTS – Prof. V. Ramasubramanian, PESIT, Bangalore
  5. Analyzing Tonal Features of Tibeto-Burman Languages – Prof. Priyankoo Sarmah, IIT Guwahati
Guest Lectures:
  1. Machine Learning and Speech Recognition for Prosody – Prof. Mark Hasegawa-Johnson, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA
  2. Signal Modeling and Speech Synthesis for Prosody – Prof. Yi Xu, University College London, UK
  3. Mutimodality and Dialog for Prosody – Prof. Marc Swerts, Tilburg University, The Netherlands
